Swedish destination wedding: Martin & Elle in Stockholm.
Elle & Martin, forgive me. Your blog post is also going to be a mix of wedding & travelogue, because everything that your wedding was for me, was wrapped up in Sweden, in travel, in family, and in new friends. I can’t divorce the experience of discovering your country with the amazing times I spent with you both.
So. Martin moved to Sweden to be with his Elle. They made a family and a life together, and a year on decided to get married. Martin had decided he didn’t want a wedding photographer, rather that they should record it with a series of selfies, but after looking at a blog post I had written (Charlotte & Dirk’s I believe), he dropped me a line. Which is good. because I would have whipped his butt had he decided wedding selfies were the way forward. Never conventional…
So we (the current Mr WB & I), booked flights & flew to Sweden. We fell a little bit in love with it too. Despite every Swede we met telling us we had come at the worst time, that we must come back in Summer, or Winter. Just not in a gloomy November. This time of year is, according to the desk clerk at the lovely Miss Clara hotel, a time “for meatballs & schnapps & feeling gloomy”. Okay, the weather was gloomy, but Sweden was beautiful, and Stockholm was friendly, and welcoming, and beautiful, and interesting. And our buddies Martin and Elle, and Elle’s family, well, they were amazing. It was such a treat to experience a country for the first time through the eyes of its inhabitants, to visit homes and favourite places, and to be taken under the wing of such a fantastic family – we loved every second of it.
Martin & Elle were married in the world’s fastest ceremony at the Stadshuset, followed by a few brief minutes grabbing a couple of portraits, then it was off to the house of Elle’s cousins Carina & Johan – thank you so much for your hospitality, and huge apologies that we had to rush out the door at the end without thanking you! We ate delicious food, laughed, got told hysterical stories by Elle’s brothers, ate Jaqueline’s incredible cakes, and generally were made so welcome. We will be back…
Martin & Elle, Charlie & Hollie & Jacqueline, thank you. For the experience, your kindness, and allowing me to record the day you made this declaration to the world. xxx
