Sophie & Will’s Isle of Wight wedding – sailing, family & all round brilliance
Sophie & Will were married yesterday on the most epic day in Yarmouth. An Isle of Wight wedding is one of my favourite things – a nearby wedding, but it still feels kind of special & different because, well, FERRY EXCITEMENT! So my trooper of a second shooter Holly & I headed across a rainy expanse of the Solent, to an actually not at all rainy island. I went straight to Sophie’s parents home, Kings Manor Farm, where she was getting ready along with her family, countless friends, and the wonderful invention that is her dad, Jamie – who was introduced via an amused bellow up the stairs, as he had waded a boat into the dock & was covered thigh high in wet silt. This pretty much set this tone for this ebullient, friendly, lovely, and slightly barking family. Sophie similarly is warm and fun, and about as un-Bridezilla-ey as one can be, and she is well matched by an equally lovely Will. Handy! In fact, everyone at this wedding was thoroughly wonderful. Which is of course what makes any wedding special and unique.
So after a beautiful ceremony at Freshwater church, oars & confetti were held aloft & the happy couple trotted down to the nearby jetty, zipped on windcheaters over bridal dresses (a beautiful Catherine Deane number from Exquisite Bridal Couture) and morning coats, and did complex things with rigging & sailed off in their boat (complete with wedding date markings on the main sail), back to Kings Manor.
There they were greeted by happy people. Food was eaten, drink was drunk, speeches were spoken, and dances were danced. And Lo! Will & his Sophie were married.
THANK YOU both for your kindness, warmth & hospitality – we loved being on Team Kings Manor for the day. Thank you to Susie & Jamie for their kindness, to Will’s parents for making us welcome too, to the wonderful team at Kings Manor who kept us hydrated & fed and were lovely to work with.
